September 13th Newsletter

Thank you 3rd grade families and students for another amazing week of school.  We really enjoyed sharing and learning about our classmates through the All About Me project.  Also, students did a solid job identifying ways they can “stretch their brain” by using a growth mindset when faced with a new or challenging task.

A Look Ahead to Next Week: 9/16

Homework: Complete daily tasks written in homework planner.  Other homework is to turn in Field Trip form and read 20 minutes each night.

Religion: We will continue with the Fruits of the Holy Spirit-–Virtues in action. We will be reading about St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. Vincent DePaul showed the virtue of kindness.

Math: Students will be using place value and ordering and comparing numbers in order to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.

Social Studies: Students will be presenting their Name Research projects.

Language Arts & Reading:  We will visit the library each Friday.  Students will have Read to Self time, begin our class novel study on Buffalo Before Breakfast and read non-fiction articles in the Read to Achieve non-fiction program.

Curriculum Night: Thanks for those who attended Curriculum Night! If you were not able to make it, and would like a copy of the information discussed at Curriculum Night, please email me at ctraywick@stjohn-school.org. I will send home in your child’s yellow Homework folder.

Things to Note:
-Look for the Blake Island Field Trip information in Homework Folders.  Please review the information and return permission form next week.

-Please sign the St John School online student handbook.

-Send in Comfort Kits!

September 6th Newsletter

Thank you 3rd grade families and students for your hard work during this busy, first week back to school!  Students are learning about new and existing classroom and school procedures during these first few weeks through independent, whole group, partner and small group tasks.

A Look Ahead to Next Week: 9/9

Homework: Read 20 minutes each night and complete daily task in homework planner.  Other homework will be to complete the name research project (due Friday 9/13).

Religion: We will begin studying the Fruits of the Holy Spirit-–Virtues in action. We will discuss a different virtue and Saint each month. September’s fruit is Kindness and the Saints are St. Vincent DePaul and St. Teresa of Calcutta.

Science: We will learn about our fantastic, elastic brain and comparing growth vs. fixed mindset.

Math: Students will be using place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic.

Social Studies: Students will present All About Me bags.

Language Arts & Reading:  We will visit the library on Friday.  Students will have Read to Self time and receive introduction to the Read to Achieve non-fiction program.

Please pack a snack only for this day.  

 

Thursday, September 5th & Friday, September 6th — 3:00pm dismissal

Please pack a snack and a sack lunch.                                                         

 

For those who have signed up, Hot Lunch service begins on Monday, September 9th!  

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Dear 3rd Grade Students and Families,

Welcome!  This year will be an incredible adventure filled with wonderful learning experiences.  I am new to the St. John family and look forward to getting to meet everyone.  I have taught different grades as young as Kindergarten up through Middle School.  I love teaching ALL subjects, and I am most passionate about Writing.  

Third grade is going to be incredible.  I cannot wait to meet you!  Have a restful and safe Labor Day.
